প্রায় ২০০ বছরের পরাধীনতার শৃঙ্খলামুক্ত হয়ে নিজের স্বাধীন পরিচয় অর্জন করেছে ভারতবর্ষ। আর তার পরের বছই প্রথমবার স্বাধীন ভারত হিসেবে অলিম্পিকের মঞ্চে নেমেছিল হকি দল। এ দেশে এত বছর রাজত্ব করা ইংল্যান্ডকে তাদেরই মাটিতে পরাস্ত করে সোনা ঘরে তুলেছিল ভারতীয় দল। লন্ডনে উড়েছিল তেরঙ্গা। আর সেই দলেরই অন্যতম সদস্য ছিলেন বলবীর সিং দোসাঞ্জ। যিনি বলবীর সিং সিনিয়র হিসেবেই বেশি পরিচিত। সে ম্যাচে চারটির মধ্যে জোড়া গোল করেছিলেন তিনিই। সেই কিংবদন্তির প্রয়াণে আজ ভারত তথা বিশ্ব হকিতে বিরাট শূন্যস্থান তৈরি হল। অবসান ঘটল ভারতীয় হকির স্বর্ণযুগের।
