Historical references are more plentiful for Bhagyanagar than Hyderabad. This video is in Telugu. English subtitles are given below.
The names of cities carry history with them. During the Islamic invasions and their ruling, several cities in the country were renamed by tampering the existing local history. One of such case is renaming the Bhagyanagar. During the Qutb Shahi dynasty the Bhagyanagar or Bhagyanagar (City of Fortune) was renamed as Hyderabad. But since then, natives and foreign traders and even some administrators however, continued to call the city – Bhagyanagar, preserving the older tradition.
This was well chronicled by several global travelers and historians. This video mentions various references made to Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar (City of Fortune).
