Violence has erupted all over Bangladesh centered on Durga Puja. Durga Pujo mandapas are being attacked in various places, idols are being broken and Hindus are being murdered.
Still news is pouring in. At least 3 people were killed and 60 others including journalists were injured in the attack.
The mandapa in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur was attacked on Wednesday.
Earlier, clashes broke out at Nanua Dighirpara in Comilla and the mandapa was vandalized. Fanatical Muslims in groups vandalized and threw Durga idols into the canal, based on false allegations of the Koran.
Numerous Muslim organizations gathered at Nanua Dighirpara and started vandalism and beatings the Hindus.
Govinda Chandra Pramanik, the general secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajot, said in a tweet, “The situation is very dire. About 150 families were affected in Shilpara, besides vandalism of idols and Hindus in Noakhali’s Hatia in Cox’s Bazar. Numerous Kali temples and Vishnu temples were attacked, Muslims molested women. Two people were killed in Chandpur. ”
In the next tweet, he said that an official of the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance was brutally hacked to death.
Police said Hindus were attacked in Banshkhali’s Chambal, Kali Mandir Municipality and Karnafuli Upazila. Numerous temples were vandalized and set on fire.
In the wake of the Comilla incident, many temples and houses in Chandpur have been attacked. One Hindu and four Muslims were killed there.
Out of 34 puja mandapas in Hatia, Noakhali, 26 were vandalized.
Many temples and Hindu houses have been vandalized in Bashkhali, Chittagong.
In Cox’s Bazar, over 200 houses and temples belonging to the Hindu Shil and other communities were vandalized.
Five temples have been set on fire in Ulipur, Kurigram.
A temple in Chapainawabganj has been vandalized and set on fire.
Muslims clashed with police in Zakiganj, Sylhet, leaving many injured, and UNO’s vehicle was vandalized.
The temple in Moulvibazar has been extensively vandalized.
Almost all the temples in Gazipur’s Kashimpur were vandalized on Thursday morning.
Many temples are still being vandalized. The situation could deteriorate further.
