সরকারের বর্ষীয়ান মন্ত্রী কাদেরের কথায়, “এ সব অপকর্ম ও নির্জলা মিথ্যার পেটেন্ট একমাত্র বিএনপির। বিএনপি সংখ্যালঘুদের শত্রু মনে করে। তারা ভেবেছে এই হামলার ফলে সরকারের উপর সংখ্যালঘুদের অনাস্থা বাড়বে, আর ভারতের সাথে বাংলাদেশের বন্ধুত্ব নষ্ট হবে।”
সংসদে প্রধান বিরোধী দল বিএনপির জাতীয় পার্টির চেয়ারম্যান জি এম কাদের জানিয়েছেন, শুক্রবার ঢাকায় তাঁরা সম্প্রীতি সমাবেশ করে সাম্প্রতিক হিংসার প্রতিবাদ করবেন। তিনি ও দলের প্রধান সব নেতা এই সমাবেশে থাকবেন। কাদের বলেন, “বাংলাদেশে এমন হামলার ঐতিহ্য নেই। দীর্ঘকাল ধরে সব মানুষ এখানে পাশাপাশি বসবাস করেন। উৎসবে সবাই অংশ নেন। সেই ঐতিহ্য নষ্ট করতে দেওয়া হবে না।”
